Just the other night, my family and I were discussing television and Internet service. Since I work on the Internet, the conversation turned to me and my thoughts on the new Verizon promo code which we came across after getting a service letter in the mail. You see, I am considered the family expert, therefore I was expected to share my knowledge of such codes and the new FiOS.
Push for FiOS Prompts the Promotion Code
As luck would have it, my particular job had me studying up on FiOS. FiOS is strictly for Verizon and it is the fastest broadband service currently available. This is nothing new nor is it too surprising. However, Verizon has decided to offer FiOS to residential areas where in the past, it was strictly for business.
It is the introduction of FiOS to residential areas that promoted the release of promo codes. Verizon wants people to try the service and they are using the codes to draw people in. The promise of big savings gets people to sign up and the service keeps them around.
How is AT&T Uverse Different
As die hard AT&T customers, my family asked how FiOS was different than the new AT&T Uverse. At this point, I had to explain AT&T Uverse and Verizon FiOS have nothing in common except that they bundle television, phone, and Internet. They are both bundle packages but that is where the similarity ends. Verizon has the fiber optic cable and that makes upgrades easier and the broadband better.
Don’t get me wrong, AT&T Uverse is pretty cool.
- Uverse allows you to pause a TV show in the living room and pick up where you left off in the bedroom. Verizon also has a multi-room DVR which gives you the same feature.
- The Wi-Fi access with wireless routers allows you to access the Internet all over. Verizon does too but AT&T has the iPhone, which sways the majority of my family even though Verizon has the better quality Internet and does not require boosters for speed.
- For me, home phone service is home phone service. If it rings and I can answer it, that is all that matters. There may be differences but I can’t tell you what they are.
Back to the Promo Code
We had to discuss all that before we could get around to the promo codes. Right now through July 24, 2010, Verizon is offering $40 off each month of service for a year. It includes the multi-room DVR for six months, a free wireless router, and a no term contract. Users must activate the coupon online. Doing so will save over $500 for the year, which is a significant discount. In fact, it was enough of a discount to get this entire discussion going.
The only drawback to this bargain is location. When we checked online, some of our family lived in qualifying areas and others did not. FiOS is not available in all areas and if it is not in your area, then obviously you have no use for the code.
