Here is a guide for 5th Generation iPod FM Transmitters! I work for a national retailer and have tested all of these. I hope it helps you in your decision making process.
It transmits alright, but you’re limited to a specific number of FM channel selections. This is behind the times, being limited that is, and 50 dollars for the monster name alone is not reasonable. Monster is known for using better supplies, but you’d probably cry if you knew how much the wholesale cost on these were. Do not buy this with the intention of using it with your iPod with video. You know how quickly the battery weakens in the iPod with video. Look at a different alternative. And if you’re looking for a transmitter for your Nano, Griffin has more choices, and for cheaper.

I actually bought this. This was one of the first decent transmitters to come out with the fifth gen iPods. It works decently, and has an advantage over most Griffins. Why, you ask? It has a lit LED display. Is it worth the 80 dollars? At night it definitely comes in handy. Monster once again is ripping you off, but they are one of the few that offer a nice, bright display. Unlimited choice of channels too. I almost considered the Griffin Itrip Auto, but the display on this Monster iPod iCarPlay was much better. I want to deduct one star for Monster being greedy again, but this seems to be the best one, and I have tried them all!
This works well, and a few actually transmitted very strong compared to the Monster iCarPlay. It falls short however, by having a harder to view display, and an even cheaper feel to the DC plug. I’ve seen a few displays go bad as well. There is a drawback of using LCD in possible extreme cold or warm situations. Ever use a cheap LCD clock and have part of the numbers go bad? yeah, it’s like that.

Decent for the nanos, in my opinion, as they do not use as much juice as the videos while running. The 4th Gen models of these were horrible, but these 5th Gen models are improved. Still, you might find yourself holding your iPod near your car dash, trying to get a better signal. I’ve seen a few displays go bad as well. That’s the drawback of using LCD in possible extreme cold or warm situations. Ever use a cheap LCD clock and have part of the numbers go bad? yeah, it’s like that.
Strong transmission, and it displays on the Nano itself. I played with one of these and absolutely loved it. If I had a Nano, this would be the one I would get. Other than it not having charging capability, I dont have a single complaint about it.
Big, bulky, and ugly but it does it all. It’s good, so I have it at 3 stars, but I’d rather buy something more functional and less bulky. For example, instead of having the display at the bottom, why not do what the Griffin Itrip Nano does and incorporate the Frequency selection from the Ipod itself? That would eliminate the bulky bottom. I bought a Speck Tough Case which has a holster on the back of it, which I use with a cellphone holder in my car, looks much neater. I guess this does it all though; charges, transmits, and holds your iPod. A good deal, just not very pretty and not very petit.
