How Much To Fix A Cracked Iphone 3Gs Screen?

Many frustrated iPhone users have suffered the great misfortune of seeing their lovely LCD touchscreen crack or shatter after clumsily losing grip of their treasured beauty.

Although the iPhone 3G and 3GS come with a 1 year limited warranty, this only covers defects in materials or workmanship, and not damage caused by accident, abuse or misuse.

So, if your glass screen broke because you dropped it, sadly, you are not protected.

But that doesn’t mean you don’t have any repair or replacement options.  In fact, there are a quite a number of different fix options that are available to you.

Here are some of the most popular with estimated costs:

1. Apple Store - You can take your iPhone 3G or 3GS to a branded Apple Store and make an appointment at the Genius Bar for a screen replacement.  If they are not busy, they will fix a broken screen while you wait.  Cost is $199.

2. Independent Local Repair Shop – There are many cell phone repair shops that have the equipment and know how to fix a cracked 3Gs iPhone screen.  Ask other owners in your community who is reputable.  But make sure they only use Apple branded and authorized replacement parts, otherwise you run the risk of voiding your warranty.  Cost $60-$100.

3. Online Repair Companies – There are a growing number of online iPhone repair outfits that will fix your broken 3Gs screen with a fast turnaround.  You simply send your iPhone away by mail and will often receive it back fixed in just a day or two.  Again, before you trust anyone to do the job, make sure you read customer reviews.  Cost with shipping $75-$125.

4. Do It Yourself Fix Kits – If you’re the handy and adventurous type, you might want to order a DIY fix kit.  There are a number of how to videos and guides available online that show you exactly how to replace the front panel. iPhone cost to fix: $60-$85 for parts.

5. Buy A New Phone - If none of the other options seem very appealing, you could always just buy a new iPhone outright or extend your current contract to get a new phone at a discount.  With iPhones currently selling anywhere from $99 to $199, this might be the best option when you consider that Apple wants to charge you $199 to fix your old screen anyway.
